Celebrating Earth Month at 15th Street Farm: A Season of Connection, Community & Growth

It started with a simple idea: what if Earth Day wasn’t just a day?

At 15th Street Farm, we’ve always believed that meaningful change comes from consistent connection—to the land, to each other, and to the food we grow and share. So this year, in collaboration with the Tampa Bay Roots & Shoots Alliance, we decided to expand Earth Day into something bigger: a month-long celebration of learning, community, and growth. And we’re inviting you to be part of it.

A Farm for Families

Every week in April, the farm will open its gates to homeschool families for a new kind of school day—one led by curiosity, dirt under fingernails, and the laughter of kids exploring the world around them.

From 9 to 11 AM, kids of all ages will dive into hands-on activities, group projects, and nature play. No worksheets—just worm bins, compost piles, native plants, and seeds. Our themed weeks will focus on the essentials:

*Walk-ins are always welcome, but early registration helps us plan.

*Be sure to bring closed toe shoes, sunscreen, water - but please no snacks or food.

*Children need to be accompanied by an adult.

Meredith Pericles, a homeschooling parent and one of the visionaries behind the series, shared:
"As a homeschooling mom, I was looking for something rooted in nature, community, and the kind of learning that comes from curiosity and play. I didn't expect to find it so close to home, but 15th St Farm is that place."

These sessions are just the beginning of what we hope will grow into a flourishing homeschool program—built slowly, intentionally, and shaped by the children who show up.

Mark Your Calendars: Earth Day Celebration

The rhythm of April leads us to Saturday, April 19, when we’ll celebrate Earth Day the 15th Street Farm way—with food, learning, joy, and purpose.

In partnership with Sans Market, this event is more than a party—it’s a collaboration between passionate changemakers, local nonprofits, and community members committed to a better future.

From 12 PM to 4 PM, guests will enjoy:

  • Guided farm tasting tours (at 12:30 & 2:30)

  • Freshly made wood-fired pizza

  • A cup of local kombucha

  • Zero-waste education & eco-conscious vendors

  • Giveaways, games, and family-friendly activities

Tickets: $35 advance | $40 after April 13 | Kids under 12 free
Proceeds directly support the farm’s educational programs.

We’re honored to be joined by organizations

The Mad Mycologist, Remora, Surfrider Foundation Suncoast, Renuable, and Climate First Bank—each bringing their own tools, knowledge, and heart to the celebration.

We also asked Sans Market why this partnership felt so important this year. The owner of Sans Market, Eniko Olah. shared:
"In years past we have organized huge clean-ups for Earth Day, which has been a great way to get the community out and engaged on such an important day. This year we decided to do something different...we decided to take our event to the farm! We will spend the day in nature learning about a great local partner, 15th St. Farm, as well as tons of other local non-profits and organizations who are tirelessly working to keep our community healthy, vibrant and sustainable. This will be a community event focused on education, togetherness, and celebration. Happy Earth Day!"

Growing Something Bigger

So often, Earth Day is treated like a one-off. A poster contest. A recycled craft. But here on the farm, we know that real change is seasonal—it’s slow, intentional, rooted in relationships. Earth Month is our way of nurturing those relationships and creating a space where learning is joyful, food is meaningful, and community is everything.

Whether you’re a parent, a student, a volunteer, or a curious neighbor—this April, we invite you to come walk the rows with us. Get your hands dirty. Taste what’s growing. Ask questions. Make a memory.

Because when we connect to the land, we grow more than food. We grow a future worth sharing.
